Decadent marble and gold detailing add a luxurious flourish to the clever design of this Auckland kitchen. Here’s how to merge function and style in your home
This luxurious kitchen gives storage a stylish edge
A feeling of decadence was a focus for the renovation of this cottage kitchen in one of Auckland’s most upmarket suburbs. The design brief for Jordan Dale of Gold Kitchens Ltd was for an elegant kitchen with touches of gold brass to work with the owners’ existing furniture. The cabinetry uses a striking brass inlay border – which both bounces light and complements the Calacatta gold marble of the benchtops and splashbacks – to pull together a dreamy, high-quality aesthetic.
“The detailing is important. You can sit back and appreciate the beauty of a design as your eye picks up more and more detail the longer you look,” says Dale. One such detail is the steel Ambia-line dividing system from Blum. A range of white and black dividers, match the two different Legrabox drawer colours used, include a quiet cutlery insert made with soft-touch material. Frames with magnetic detail can be positioned where desired, which allows for highly organised deep pull-outs.
Being a small space, an easy layout for someone busy and on-the-go was a focus. A subtle doorway leading to the Miele fridge-freezer, scullery and laundry in-one, helps to simplify and balance the kitchen layout, while providing the practicality of a hidden bench space, which especially comes into play when the owners are entertaining. With a kitchen as smooth as this, we expect they are inviting everyone to dinner.
