Leonardo DiCaprio, Blackadore Caye island
Leonardo DiCaprio bought his island, located off the coast of Belize in 2005 for $1.75 million. It’s more than a 104 acres and is in the process of being turned into an eco-conscious resort. There are plans to open the 80-room luxury resort to paying guests this year.
Johnny Depp
During filming his first Pirates of the Caribbean film Johnny Depp fell in love with the Bahamas, so much so that he bought a 45-acre tropical island in the Caribbean called Little Hall’s Pond Cay. It cost him $3.6 million and has nicknamed it “F**k Off Island”, explaining how he intends for it to remain private.
Shakira
In 2011, Shakira and Pink Floyd member Roger Waters bought an island near the Bahamas. They have plans to develop it into a resort for millionaires. The island is reportedly worth $16 million and is more than 500 acres in size.
Pamela Anderson
Before she divorced Tommy Lee, he bought her an island in Dubai as a gift (allegedly to try and win her back) in 2007. It’s one of the globe-themed islands developed by The World Project.
Mel Gibson
In 2005 Mel Gibson bought a volcanic island in Fiji named Mago Island. The 5,400-acre island cost him $17 million dollars. But it came with a bit of controversy; there was a campaign by native Fijians who say they have an ancestral claim to the land.
Steven Spielberg
The award-winning director owns an island in Madeira Archipelago, off the coast of Portugal. When he’s not on holiday there, he’s travelling around on his 86-metre luxury yacht with his family.
Eddie Murphy
In 2007 the comedian bought Long Cay island in the Bahamas for $15 million.
Nicolas Cage
Nicholas Cage purchased Leaf Cay island in the Bahamas for $3 million in 2006. Several luxury hotels are set up on the island, which are visited by the rich and famous.
Ricky Martin
A slice of the resort region in Angra Dos Reis in Brazil is owned by Ricky Martin. For $8 million, the singer scored himself an island with one of the most spectacular beaches in South America.
Celine Dion
Up until recently, celebrated singer Celine Dion owned a private island in Quebec’s Mille Iles River in Canada. She sold it for 72.5 million in 2013.
