An extensive reno gave this villa all the modern comforts it needed

The spacious gardens, lovingly maintained by Melinda, have allowed the family plenty of room for the children to play or just take time out in nature. But like any close family, it’s meal times that bring the clan together. The covered verandah between the family room and the pool has become the regular meeting point for the Morleys to dine alfresco and catch up on the day’s events.

This villa underwent an initial cosmetic facelift followed by a comprehensive renovation and the results are stunning

When Melinda and Simon Morley bought their circa 1905 Federation (an architecture style popular in Australia from 1890-1915) villa it was essentially in original condition: vintage appliances, tired vinyl flooring, seriously patchy paintwork and open fireplaces the only mode of heating. The home was given a largely cosmetic facelift to make it more comfortable for the family of six.

In 2007, Simon and Melinda decided the time was right to undertake a more comprehensive renovation. With the help Drew Cole Architects and builders Morcon Developments, a rear extension containing a new kitchen, family room, bathroom and verandah was added to give the family more living space.

The Morleys say they are thrilled with the result. “We love the style and character of Federation homes but the renovation has given us all the modern comforts we need,” says Melinda. “It’s the best of both worlds.”
