Budgets, bedrooms and bathrooms were the name of the game this week on The Block NZ. We round up the room reveals and take a closer look at their final style
The Block NZ: Week 8 guest bedroom room reveal
Budgets were the name of the game on The Block NZ this week as the teams raced complete their guest bedroom and bathroom. With the majority of their budgets already blown, the pressure was on to complete the two rooms with just $15,000.
Host Mark Richardson raised the stakes even higher by offering an additional $10,000 to any team that could come in under budget. This desperately needed bonus kicked the teams into overdrive – Andy and Nate pulled and all-nighter and even Ling and Zing put extra effort into the decor and style of their room.
Scroll to take closer look at the guest bedrooms and bathrooms and if you missed out on the judges comments last night, don’t worry. We’ve rounded up how everyone scored below:
Andy and Nate
Andy and Nate wowed the judges again this week and won the room reveal challenge for the fourth time this season. Jason praised their execution saying, “with these guys it’s all about the detail and once again it’s beautifully finished”. The judges thought the colour blocking was clever and that the overall space was well coordinated.
Julia and Ali
Julia and Ali often clash with the judges over their love of beige and neutral palettes, but this week the judges were happy to see a bit of colour was included in their guest bedroom. They also liked how Julia and Ali are making the most of their skills as lighting designers and said their lightbox installation was “cute, creative and gave the room some impact”.
Ling and Zing
Ling and Zing stepped their game up this week and the judges were pleasantly surprised. The judges liked that they had finally been a little creative with their wall feature and decor. Unfortunately their little desk was a tad too high and the finishing in the bathroom was a bit sloppy.
Stace and Yanita
Stace and Yanita were riding on a high from winning last week’s room reveal challenge. The judges thought the besties had used a well coordinated colour scheme and liked how they had accessoried the room. They also thought the repositioning of the wardrobe was a clever move as it made the room feel much larger. Sadly the overall look was let down by poor execution, with bad paint lines and a dusty, unfinished bathroom.

Andy and Nate
Although Andy and Nate’s bathroom would have been the ideal room to redo the tight budget and limited time meant the they settled on improving their kitchen and living area instead. The judges said Andy and Nate’s living room felt too much like a commercial space. They also said the wooden louvre feature was chunky and looked like a bed and they hated the ‘coffin-like’ tv cabinet. So Andy and Nate set about rearranging the space, rebuilding the louvre and cabinet to create more of a ‘homey-feel’.

Julia and Ali
Julia and Ali received an abysmal for their attempt at a little boys room at the start of the season. After making up for their botched efforts by repeating the kid’s room brief in the ‘blank canvas’ room reveal, the twins had the perfect opportunity this week to get rid of the black mark on their record.

Ling and Zing
Ling and Zing may be spoilt for choice when it comes to past disasters, but conflicting ideas about which room to redo and with limited time up their sleeves, the brother’s decided to fix up bit and pieces that they didn’t get around to doing. While touching up paint, fixing cabinets and finishing the hallway are important jobs for the overall look of the house this decision went against the brief of choosing one space to do-over and they received the lowest score in Block history – 0.5!

Stace and Yanita
Battling with an AWOL plasterer and with 80% of their budget already spent, Stace and Yanita‘s room reveal was not a smooth one this week. The besties decided to redo their living room to make it feel more open plan. By swapping their couch, removing the scaffold room divider and adding a desk space the room instantly felt like more of a livable space. The judges were impressed by the makeover and the Orange Team finally won the room reveal challenge.
