Fill them with treats the family will actually love.
The highlight of any Christmas lunch – aside from the ham – is arguably the Christmas bon bons. With the budget already stretched on presents and food, why not save yourself a little by fashioning your own crackers? Not only will these give your table a personalised touch, but it also means you can skip the groan-worthy jokes and plastic trinkets and instead fill them with items that won’t end up straight in the bin.
YOU’LL NEED
- Cardboard tubes from rolls of kitchen paper, cut to size
- Cracker snaps are available at Spotlight, craft stores, party stores, etc
- Coloured paper
- Curling ribbon or string
- PVC glue
STEP-BY-STEP
STEP ONE
Place a cracker snap inside a cardboard tube and secure well with glue.
STEP TWO
Cut the wrapping paper of your choice into lengths to wrap snugly around the cardboard tube, leaving a 3cm overhang on each end to disguise the ends of the snap.
STEP THREE
Roll the bon bon in wrapping paper and secure with double-sided sticky tape.
STEP FOUR
Pinch one end and tie with ribbon or string. Repeat for other side.
STEP FIVE
Insert trinkets through the other end and secure with matching ribbon or string.
Tip: Use a metallic pen to write the names of your guests on the bon bons for an even more personal touch.
