The Block AU: Inside Kim and Chris’s kitchen

The sense of grandeur and space in these kitchens made the three judges’ jaws drop. Each kitchen was luxurious yet highly individual and showcased the different styles of the teams, from Hollywood glamour to industrial deco.

These kitchens and dining areas really put the heart into apartments designed for the most committed entertainers and home chefs. From pops of colour on cabinetry to vast Caesarstone benchtops, there’s plenty of inspiration for modern kitchen design in these kitchens.

A handsome Caesarstone bench. A timber breakfast bar. Both were conquering heroes. But together, said Shaynna, these chest-beaters were fighting for attention and cancelled each other out. Neale had similar reservations.

The teal cupboards clashed with the benchtops and there was a Goldilocks moment when he sat on a stool and couldn’t squeeze his legs under the island. This functional, hard-working kitchen also had a large prep area, but lacked power points on the island.

Tips:

  • Colour can be effective in the kitchen. This striking, deep blue cabinetry adds energy to the space.
  • A gooseneck tap is both eye-catching and super handy.
  • Make your breakfast bar stand out from the benchtop by using a contrasting material.
  • Make sure there’s enough room for legs when seated at the bar!

The Block NZ: How does Stace and Yanita’s kitchen compare?

Stace and Yanita used their signature palette of white, timber and pops of blue in their kitchen and dining. The judges thought the over look was nicely put together and they were especially impressed with the way the window had been reconfigured to make room for extra storage. But just like Kim and Chris, the appliance placement and lack of power sockets really let down Stace and Yanita’s final score.
