Kitchen confidential: Art & Matilda’s new Haier appliances are bringing the heat

The Green family can’t wait to cook up a storm using Haier’s latest product range

When asked to name their favourite new addition to the renovated Warkworth kitchen, Art and Matilda Green don’t hesitate. “Count of three?” says Matilda. “One… two… three: the fridge,” they chorus in unison.

With their reno underway, the couple can barely contain their excitement for the crown jewel of their sleek new Haier kitchen fit-out: the 509L 500 Series French Door Refrigerator Freezer. It’s a welcome upgrade from their old model, which was “literally bulging at the seams, with stuff falling out”.

“To have a big, chic fridge with lots of space is going to be amazing, and it makes such a statement too.” With a 70:30 fridge-to-freezer split, there’s ample room for a busy family of five. A Humidity Zone drawer and separate storage bin keep produce crisp and organised, while the Super Freeze function helps freeze leftovers fast. The pair also have a 386L 500 Series Vertical Freezer for long-term storage and cutting down on last-minute supermarket runs into town.

Introducing induction

Another hero is the new Haier 90cm 600 Series Induction Cooktop, replacing the malfunctioning electric cooktop, an original inhabitant of their ’90s home.

“We often had to use the barbecue to cook,” says Art. “We didn’t have the main part of the cooktop available for almost a year. So, this is one we’re really excited about. We had a taste of induction in our old house with a Haier cooktop, and once you go induction, you can’t go back – it’s just so good.” Soon, they’ll have five cooking zones at their fingertips, including a Flexi Zone, which can be paired to create a larger cooking surface. “I can’t wait for that. I’m going to buy a huge skillet,” says Art, who’s planning everything from searing large cuts of meat to weekend pancake sessions.

A cool-touch surface is good for peace of mind, with regular kitchen residents being their three children, aged six and under. Simple slide controls and a child lock add an extra layer of safety. It also pairs with the new 90cm 600 Series Integrated Insert Wall Rangehood via Haier’s SmartHQ app, using hood-to-hob tech to automatically adjust extraction to match cooking power.

Heat, eat

While Art’s excitement centres on the cooktop, Matilda has her sights set on the two new Haier 60cm 600 Series Built-In Ovens. Each oven features 25 cooking functions, including Air Fry, Roast, Pizza and Dehydrate, making it easy to multitask in a busy household. “I can bake dessert while cooking dinner,” she says.

At the top of her list is the pyrolytic self-clean function, which breaks down food residue for effortless cleaning. “That’s a game-changer, because otherwise I just won’t do it,” she says. Art, meanwhile, is excited to make the most of the steam assist functions, powered by a one-litre water tank – ideal for everything from proving bread to steaming fish. “I want to learn to make really good, fresh bread. We spend so much on it because the kids go through it.”

Squeaky clean

With family feasts on the agenda, easy clean-up is a must. The new 500 Series Integrated Dishwasher makes it as seamless as possible (short of physically putting the dishes away). With a generous 15-place setting capacity, it easily accommodates larger plates up to 320mm, all while delivering a five-star water rating and four-star energy rating.

Energy efficiency is a key priority for Art and Matilda, leading them to choose Haier’s Monoblock Heat Pump Water Heater, which is significantly more efficient than traditional electric-resistance or gas water heaters. It runs on electricity and can use up to 79 percent less energy to heat the same volume of water. With Haier working quietly behind the scenes to keep the home running smoothly and taking centre stage when it comes to preparing family feasts, the kitchen is set to become the busy heart, and smart hub, of the Greens’ home.

Connectivity confirmed

The Greens are firm fans of Haier’s SmartHQ app, which Art – the family’s “logistics manager” – uses to control the Haier ducted heat pump and hot water system. Soon he’ll use it to manage the full kitchen suite, from starting the dishwasher remotely to checking fridge and water temperatures.

“The app is awesome,” says Art. “We’re really looking forward to having all the Haier appliances connected. It’s so useful, especially for the oven. I can turn it on to start preheating when I’m about to head home with the kids from school. It just makes life so much easier and more streamlined.”
