The kitchen may traditionally be considered the heart of the home, but for Art and Matilda Green, the laundry deserves just as much attention, especially for their busy household of five.
In fact, it was one of the spaces they were most excited to transform in their Warkworth renovation, with a thoughtfully designed fit-out centred around their new Haier laundry appliances.
“The original laundry was so small and cramped that we barely had room for a washer and dryer. They were stacked on top of each other, looking a bit sad,” says Art.
Now, the space tells a very different story. Taking pride of place are the sleek Haier 12kg 600 Series Front Loader Washing Machine and 10kg 600 Series Heat Pump Dryer. Positioned side by side, they free up valuable benchtop space while creating a streamlined, contemporary look. “The before and after are like chalk and cheese,” says Matilda. “The dark colour of the Haier washer and dryer pairs beautifully with the rest of the laundry and makes it feel really slick and modern.”
Art, the self-proclaimed family logistics manager, has also ensured the layout works as efficiently as it looks. “We’ve configured the doors to open on opposing hinges, which makes transferring washing from the washer to the dryer really seamless.”

Wash, rinse, repeat
With no shortage of laundry for this busy household, capacity was key. The size of the 12kg Front Loader Washing Machine appealed, as did its five-star energy and water ratings.
“It’s a big priority for us to be smart about our energy use,” says Art.
But the feature they’ve fallen in love with most? Smart Dosing. “We love it,” says Art. “You just fill up the reservoir with laundry liquid, then it automatically senses the load weight and doses the correct amount per wash without you having to refill every wash.”
This not only improves efficiency and clothing care, but also cuts down on day-to-day admin, with most households only needing to refill every 20–30 washes. With three children under six, spills and stains are a regular occurrence, whether from mealtimes or muddy adventures in the native bush bordering their property. Thankfully, the machine’s 12 dedicated wash cycles remove the guesswork.“It’s great not having to think too hard about which setting to use,” says Art. “It handles whatever we throw at it.”
For added peace of mind, a reassuring UV Protect process eliminates 99.99 percent of bacteria at the end of each cycle.

Dry as a bone
The other half of the dynamic duo is the Haier 10kg Heat Pump Dryer, which “seems to dry clothes quicker and more evenly than other dryers we have had”. That’s thanks to Ultra Reverse Drum technology, which changes rotation every four minutes while continually circulating warm air. The dryer has come into its own during the winter months, especially for a family
that loves being outdoors. Ultra Sense technology is perfect for drying bulky items like puffer jackets or duvets, sensing moisture levels both inside the load and on the surface. The Gentle Care cycle, meanwhile, allows for drying delicate woollens, along with a Woolmark Bluecertified wool cycle designed specifically for delicate handwash-only items.“I feel like I could never get the hang of drying jackets and winter woollies right, but now it feels like the dryer is doing the hard yards,” says Matilda. “And I’m not as stressed about shrinking things, which I’ve done before.”
Smart assistance
Along with their suite of Haier kitchen appliances, heat pump hot water system and ducted air conditioning, the washer and dryer are controlled using Haier’s SmartHQ app, which the couple describes as “a game-changer”.“It’s super handy in that it lets you know when laundry detergent needs filling and when your load is finished, which is quite handy when you’re out of the house, and you can remind your significant other to hang out the washing,” says Art.
“We’re finding that using the app with the dryer is really useful as it reminds us to clean the lint filter and empty the water tank.”
While the appliances aren’t up to folding the washing quite yet, laundry day will be so much easier in this freshly fitted out and hard-working hub of the home.

Home comforts
While the kitchen and laundry appliances are the stars of the show, Haier is also working quietly behind the scenes to keep the Green family warm and comfortable this winter with its home heating, cooling and hot water systems. With cold, frosty mornings arriving in Warkworth, Art and Matilda simply set the Haier Ducted Air Conditioning system to the ideal morning temperature via the SmartHQ app, programming the timer to switch on before the family wakes.
“We wake up with the house already at the perfect temperature, which makes a big difference on these colder winter mornings,” says Art. Also working quietly behind the scenes is the family’s new Haier Monoblock heat pump water cylinder.
Using heat pump technology, the system draws warmth from the surrounding air and uses electricity only to power the compressor and fan, rather than heating water directly through an electric element.
“It’s been far cheaper to run, and it’s far more efficient in using electricity.”
