Fiona Hawtin, Your Home and Garden Editor
“As the editor of a home magazine, I’m always tempted by the new and now. I may live in a ’70s split-level house but instead of being mid-century, my home is more a celebration of different styles, such as French vintage with a bit of Moroccan riad and eccentric cousin thrown in. I believe you can never have too much pottery, good lighting, cookware or duvets.”
Fiona’s top home decor picks:
1. 100% Stonewashed Cotton Lavender Sheet Set
from $128.99 at Shop Your Home and Garden
“Good bed linen is one of life’s luxuries. These stonewashed cotton sheets in soft pastel lavender are the new white in my book. You can work them with a strong terracotta or grey to make your bedroom look more dramatic without having to do anything other than change your sheets.”
2. Flow Studio Ceramics Medium Rocco Vase
from $275 at Shop Your Home and Garden
“As a bad potter, I know how much work goes into throwing a vase like this (in my dreams!), so this takes pride of place on my curated pottery shelves.”
3. Blow My Wick Santorini Candle Set
from $76.99 at Shop Your Home and Garden
“Why have a taper candle when you can have a set of three that mimics architectural features?”
4. Pop Motif Pablo Picasso Guernica Art Print
from $289 at Shop Your Home and Garden
“I love a good print of a famous artwork and Picasso’s Guernica is no exception. Being black and white means it’ll slot in anywhere. The fact that it’s an anti-war statement makes it even more appealing.”
Sarah Henry, The Australian Women’s Weekly Editor-at-Large
“My home is more than 120 years old. It has been added on to over the years, so there’s a mix of contemporary elements and traditional bones. To help merge the worlds, the entire interior of the house is painted in the same shade – Resene Karen Walker Periglacial Blue – in varying strengths and I stick to white or light natural wood for larger furniture items. This neutral base allows me to swap items in and out with ease whether it’s my child’s latest artwork or a colourful cushion that has caught my eye. Cushions and throws are my weakness.”
Sarah’s top home decor picks:
1. Home Lab Ivory Round 50cm Linen Lantern
from $238.99 at Shop Your Home and Garden
“I love the simple elegance of this linen pendant light, which throws a beautiful soft glow. When it comes to lighting styles, I’m a less is more type. I think this design is timeless and can adapt to many interior looks.”
2. Home Lab 100% French Flax Linen Feather Filled Sage Cushion
from $78.99 at Shop Your Home and Garden
“I’ll be updating some throw cushions on my all-white bed to work with the décor and these linen beauties are perfectly luxurious.”
3. The Trading House Moroccan Coir Doormat
from $56.90 at Shop Your Home and Garden
“A new front doormat may not seem like the most exciting purchase, but adding this statement version is going to instantly freshen up my entranceway. The colours will really pop against my black front door.”
4. Author Ceramics Large East Coast Pillow Vase
from $219 at Shop Your Home and Garden
“Of course it’s a vase, but handcrafted by a talented Kiwi ceramic artist, this is also a piece of art. I think it will look beautiful with a couple of monstera leaves in it.”
