We’re shaking off the shackles of our all-white, minimalist bathrooms and picking up our paintbrushes. Once relegated to safe neutrals, bathrooms are becoming canvases for self-expression and creativity. And if we’re just talking about the paint colour, this is a low-investment, low-risk opportunity to add charm and individuality to the home.
This joyful movement is a powerful antidote to the grey and beige interiors found throughout the past decade. Aligning with dopamine decor and dressing your home to suit your lifestyle, there are no rules when it comes to colourful bathrooms.
Trending hues range from pretty pastels – soft pinks, baby blues and mossy greens – to earthy browns, offering warmth and drama. Designers are increasingly using monochromatic colour-drenching (where a single hue is layered throughout the space), creating a cohesive and calming atmosphere. Meanwhile, striped and checkerboard patterns, mosaic tiles and textured finishes are adding depth and visual interest, turning plain bathrooms into vibrant displays of personality.
If these colourful bathrooms are anything to go by, we’re about to see a surge of statement-making spaces with bold patterns, immersive colour drenching and playful tile work taking centre stage. We couldn’t be more excited.
Colourful bathrooms to add to your moodboard

Drenched in pastel pink
“We didn’t want it to look like everyone else’s house,” says the owner of this renovated heritage home. Paired with black tapware and marble-tiled flooring, the soft pink walls and vanity create a sense of warmth.

Peach pit
Peach subway tiles and a matching concrete basin set the tone for this bathroom. This modern barn in Kumeu, is packed full of personality, with green hues throughout. The bathroom, however, offers a serene place for relaxation, away from the kids and energetic puppy.

Bold and green
With bold, green tiling, a concrete basin and terrazzo flooring, this Mount Maunganui bathroom is a treat for the eyes. The forest green Martino Gamper Arnold Circus stool and the sage Baina towel wrap up the green aesthetic nicely.

Minimal, coastal blue
Coming from an all-white interior, these homeowners knew they wanted to add more colour to this new build. Set within a calm retreat in New Plymouth, the colour of this bathroom is as serene as its surroundings. The relaxed, powder blue tiles set the tone of understated luxury.

Pale pink and marble
Bonnie and Neil know a thing or two about designing gorgeous homewares and textiles. And when it came to their own home renovation, we wouldn’t expect anything less than plenty of colour and texture. Neil created this vanity unit himself, and the couple picked out the rose zellige tiles for the walls and Perini marble tiles for the floor. The cherry on top, of course, is the Bonnie and Neil wave bath mat.

Mixed green feathers
Within this Mount Eden renovation, a feather-tiled ensuite makes a dramatic statement. The mix of green allows the brushed brass tapware to shine, giving the bathroom a tropical, yet calming vibe.

Tiled candy stripes
Pink and white – a match made in heaven. These subway tiles, arranged into wide stripes, add a sense of depth to this bathroom. Situated within a home that emulates doll’s houses of yesteryear, this colourful combination makes perfect sense. Alongside the Art Deco fixtures, including the baby blue sink, the colourful tiles create a sense of whimsy.

Japanese-inspired hues
With views of the lush bush behind the property, this forest green bathroom sits in perfect harmony with its environment. Considered a ‘sanctuary that evokes the restorative calm of a Japanese bathhouse’, this bathroom is complete with mosaic tiles across the floor, walls, and bath exterior, colour-matched with the Dulux Lush Hosta paint colour.

Pink whimsy
When designing her interior, journalist and author Pandora Sykes searched for features her family would never grow tired of. She adorned the bathroom with a pink-hued wallpaper, a cheerful green painted vanity and mirror cabinet, with gleaming brass accessories. Each detail is an absolute delight.

Green feature
Within this revitalised New Plymouth villa, the homeowners incorporated pops of green throughout. This bathroom was one of the first spaces to be completed in the renovation and features a wall of dark green subway tiles. This feature mirrors the beautiful camellia tree framed in the window. Paired with white floor tiles and brass tapware, this gets a tick from us.
