DIY: How to create a circus-themed room

Roll up, roll up. Give your child a big-top adventure by transforming their room into a circus, complete with bold stripes
Photography by: Melanie Jenkins/Flash Studios

Create this circus look for your kid’s room by painting the entire ceiling in Resene Time Out and allowing it to dry. Next, run a string from each corner of the room to find the mid-way point. Draw a 20cm circle in the middle. From here, divide the circle into eight even triangles and draw a line around the circle at each point. Run painter’s tape from this centre point all the way out to where the ceiling meets the top of the wall. This will create eight triangles to paint in Resene Paradise.

Form a line

If you are done with all the painter’s tape, try a more organic look by first painting your wall in Resene Alabaster, then drawing very faint vertical pencil lines with a ruler approximately 5cm apart. Using a small paint brush and a steady hand, trace over the lines with your paint brush and Resene Rapture. Don’t worry if the lines are wobbly, thick or thin – it’s all part of the look.

TOP TIP
Artwork shouldn’t be hung too high. About 1.5m off the floor is a good start, or with the centre point at eye level.
