Transform the entrance to a home by making a statement with dramatic dark doors and trim, rather than the usual white or stained doors. These contrast well with white-toned walls. It’s a modern paint treatment. If you tire of it, it’s relatively easy to repaint your doors and trims.

You will need
- Sandpaper
- Filler
- Resene Waterborne Sureseal pigmented sealer
- Undercoat for the walls. I used Resene Quick Dry waterborne primer
- Paint. I used Resene SpaceCote Flat Kitchen & Bathroom in Resene Spanish White
- Paint for the trims. I used Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel in Resene Double Foundry
- Resene MyArtisan Foundation Coat paint in Resene Triple Spanish White. I used this for texture and the arched wall
- Brushes
- Roller

Step 1
A great paint job is all in the prep work. Make sure all the walls are clean and dust-free, then fill and sand any holes or nicks. It is best to spot prime anywhere you fill.

Step 2
Still prepping. These doors and trims are all varnished, so I gave them a light sand and wiped clean. I primed them with Resene Waterborne Sureseal pigmented sealer, which is specifically for varnished surfaces.

Step 3
I applied an undercoat of Resene Quick Dry primer to the walls and let it dry completely.
Step 4
It is easiest to paint the walls and ceiling first, then cut in the trims after. Using a roller, I applied one coat of Resene SpaceCote Flat in Resene Spanish White and let it dry completely before applying another coat.

Step 5
Once the walls are done, cut in all the trims. I used Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel in Resene Double Foundry. I applied one coat with a brush, let it dry, then applied a second coat.

Step 6
For the arched wall, I wanted a textured Moroccan finish. I used two coats of Resene MyArtisan Foundation Coat paint in Resene Triple Spanish White for texture and to make the arched wall look like something straight out of Marrakech, allowing it to dry completely between coats.
