Discover Kayu Studio’s new boutique Mount Maunganui accommodation

Mount Maunganui design store Kayu Studio has expanded its horizons with Kayu Casa, an Airbnb allowing guests to experience their favourite pieces

Kayu Casa’s dining room is complete with the Citta Radial Dining Table and Kayu Studio Oval Linen Lantern

When it comes to boutique Mount Maunganui accommodation, few deliver such a sanctuary of style and comfort. Aptly named Kayu Casa, the Airbnb stay is an immersive experience of all Kayu Studio has to offer, and is available to book here for $257 per night.

The space is one to take a rest, tune out the busyness of everyday life and most of all, embark on a journey of exploration of the inspirational interiors.

“We loved the idea of truly showcasing all our favourite pieces in situ, for people to get a genuine feel for what it would be like to use them and live among them,” says founder James Mitchell. “Kayu Casa brings new meaning to the concept of a home for the brand.”

Kayu Casa is curated as a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with a spacious open-plan living area including a dining area and fully-equipped kitchen.

Filled with natural light, you won’t want to leave, but if you do, central Mount Maunganui is just around the corner, and the beach is just up the road. Priced at $253.00 a night, you’re welcome to book the entire place for as long as you wish and use the meeting room within the adjacent Kayu Studio showroom for a cup of coffee and a quiet place to work.

The Mount Maunganui accommodation’s kitchen is well specced to ensure your stay is as easy as possible

Alongside the Mount Maunganui Airbnb, Kayu Studio has also opened a sleek new showroom at 13 Totara Street, an expansion of their previous home on Mark Road. All those who wander through the impeccably designed, neutral space are shown how their signature pieces could look in their own homes.

James Mitchell’s journey to establishing the Kayu brand was unconventional yet organic. Hailing from Mount Maunganui, he spent a decade in Bali, where he founded Salt Villas — an interior design and property management company specialising in renovating and adorning boutique accommodations.

While procuring furniture and homewares for his business, Mitchell recognised a void in New Zealand’s market for exceptional, one-of-a-kind pieces with an ethical foundation. He now divides his time between New Zealand and Bali, collaborating closely with the artisans behind Kayu Studio’s in-house brand and sourcing decor, furniture, and homewares from like-minded craftsmen.

The brand’s collection meets the local demand for accessibly-priced furniture, crafted according to fair trade practices. Kayu Studio carries its in-house brand as well as talented makers of ceramics, fabrics and furniture.

Immerse yourself in the world of Kayu Studio and book your stay at Kayu Casa here for $257 per night.
