Make your own modern decorations and gifts with fimo. We show you how
Candle holder
You will need: 2 packets of Fimo (black and white) • Ruler • Knife • Tealight candle • Baking tray and baking paper
1 Soften up the packets of Fimo by rolling in your hands until pliable, then roll each colour into a long sausage shape.
2 Place the sausages side by side and roll together until the colours merge to create a ‘marble’ effect.
3 Roll out the Fimo to 5mm thick and cut out a rectangle measuring 25cm x 10cm.
4 Take the short ends and join them together to make a tube. Fold in the bottom of the tube to create the base of the holder.
5 Smooth out the joins and the base with your fingers. Pop in the tealight and make sure it sits flat in the holder.
6 Remove tealight. Place holder on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake in a 110°C oven for 30 minutes. Cool overnight.
Napkin rings
You will need: 4 packets of Fimo (2 black, 2 white) • Rolling pin • Ruler • Knife • Baking tray and baking paper
1 Soften the packets of Fimo by rolling in your hands until the Fimo is pliable, then roll each packet into a long sausage shape, making 2 rolls of white, 2 of black.
2 Place a white and a black sausage side by side and roll together until the colours start to merge to create a ‘marble’ effect. Repeat with the other 2 rolls.
3 Roll the Fimo with the rolling pin to flatten it out.
4 Cut the Fimo into 6 strips about 4cm wide and 20cm long (a standard ruler is 4cm wide so I used this as a template).
5 Take each strip and join the ends together to form rings of the required diameter. Smooth out the joins with your fingers.
6 Place rings on their sides on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Bake in a 110°C oven for 30 minutes. Cool overnight.
Star decorations
You will need: • 2 packets of Fimo (black and white) • Rolling pin • Star cookie cutter • Bamboo skewer • Baking tray and baking paper • Twine or ribbon
1 Soften up your 2 packets of Fimo by rolling in your hands till pliable, then roll each colour into a long sausage shape.
2 Place sausages side by side and roll together until colours start to merge.
3 Get the rolling pin and start rolling the Fimo. You may need to roll it into a ball and then flatten it out a few times to get your desired ‘marble’ look.
4 Cut out 6 stars using a cookie cutter.
5 Take a bamboo skewer and poke a hole through one of the points on each star for threading later.
6 Place stars on a flat baking tray lined with baking paper and bake in a 110°C oven for 30 minutes. Leave to cool overnight.
7 Thread stars with twine or ribbon.
