An airy new eatery on Devonport Wharf oozes laidback Mediterranean cool with palms, cane furniture, Turkish copperware and gorgeous sea views encompassing both sunrise and sunset
Inside Devon on the Wharf
Devon on the Wharf is the latest foodie enterprise from husband and wife team Alex Isik and Nigar Ivgen (who are also behind Nomad, Deco Eatery and Bodrum Kitchen among others).
The interior by architects Pennant & Triumph makes the most of the harbour and city views on either side of the wharf and evokes the laidback style of “summer on the Mediterranean coast” with a crisp white palette, whitewashed cane furniture, a marble bar and potted greenery.
The owners’ Turkish heritage informs the decor – copper jugs, hand-etched tea trays, woven ceiling fans, even the decorative breeze-block ventilation – as well as the cuisine, which is available all day and into the evening.
Simple whitewashed furniture and comfy squabs and cushions create a relaxing environment for those with time to spare for a baked treat or a platter of fresh seafood.
Meanwhile, a kiosk enables commuters to grab a freshly squeezed juice, coffee or healthy lunch as they power-walk to the ferry.
