Queens of second place, team purple Chlo and Em delivered wit, charm and some of the best moments on The Block NZ this season. Their blocked-pipe drama, a love affair with all The Block boys, the fishing calendar photos and a memorable circus performance at Block Stars won them the hearts of the viewers, but not the points at room reveal time.
Even though they didn’t come away with any room wins, their Morrocan inspired home didn’t fail to impress the judges. Their penchant for styling came out in week one with their “peacock blue” themed guest bedroom and only continued to improve from then on.
But the judges didn’t always agree when it came to Chlo and Em’s “cute and quirky” rooms. Their style often polarising judge Jason Bonham, but thrilling Kristina Rapley, was most evident in living room week when their ‘Rice Cake’ coloured walls, thin open shelves and colourful art received a 7.5 from Rapley but only a 4 from Bonham.
Colour indecision plagued the girls the most and sometimes cost them the room win. Only one point behind Amy and Stu in the master bedroom and ensuite week, they couldn’t help but think whether they might have taken out the win if only they’d followed their gut and put some colour on their ensuite wall.

Chlo and Em embraced colour in entrance and powder room week. The judges thought it was a lovely space and awarded them a 14.

Judge Kristina Rapley loved the use of sage in the entrance and both she and Jason Bonham were impressed by the choice of tiles.

The girls put a bit of colour into their powder room too.

Bonham and Rapley agreed that the amount storage and workable bench space was a win in Chlo and Em’s laundry.

Chlo and Em’s small dotted tiles ticked both the judges pink.

The staircase leading up the the dining, kitchen and living area features wooden stairs.

The judges loved the use of colour in the dining and kitchen area.

The spacious kitchen is the perfect entertaining area.

The kitchen bridges the space between the dining room and the living room.

The judge’s opinions were completely divided over Chlo and Em’s living room.

Even though the walls were white, Chlo and Em added colour in with their accessorising.

Bonham hated the room and thought the hanging chair was impractical and unnecessary, but Rapley loved it.

Their guest bedroom was given the theme “peacock blue luxe.”

Graphic black and white tiles feature in the family bathroom.

The blue glass basin gives the bathroom a touch of luxe.

The black paneled glass features all throughout the girls house.

Judges loved the room saying it felt “masculine and age appropriate.”

Statement pendant lights hang in the stairwell leading up to their landing on the top floor.

Chlo and Em’s landing is a cosy space to sit and read a book.

Chlo and Em were neck and neck with Amy and Stu for their Moroccan themed bedroom.

For their ‘Give and Take’ challenge Chlo and Em reupholstered an old piano stool with fabric chosen by Amy and Stu. The judges loved it and the girls won the challenge.

The PlaceMakers wardrobe has lots of clever storage.

Chlo and Em were undecided about the colour in their bathroom and despite advice from Shelley about using a soft terracotta colour on their walls the girls decided to stick with white.

The judges thought colour on the walls could have really lifted the space.

The judges thought Chlo and Em’s garage was a bit too basic.

The judges said they expected more from Chlo and Em at this stage in the competition.
