What’s under the microscope?
Nanoleaf’s Smart Multicolour Outdoor String Lights
Give me the elevator pitch.
They’re outdoor festoon lights that change colour and suitable for all weather conditions – rain included. Connect them to your smart home ecosystem to control the brightness, activate remotely and use voice commands.
And in more depth?
Well, Nanoleaf is a tech company dedicated to smart home solutions, so you know this comes with all the bells and whistles. The almost infinite combinations of colours (16 million) and whites are pretty mind-blowing. Even better, you can do this automatically or with voice control. These are not like your more traditional light bulb design but are dodecahedron-shaped. They’ll probably look a little too sophisticated if you’re after a basic Mexican fiesta vibe. Being acrylic they don’t break when dropped – bonus.
Are they all they’re cracked up to be and do we need it in our lives?
If you’re like me and love having a courtyard you can light up year-round, so every day feels like a party, then absolutely.
Any downside?
Does having the urge to sing You Light Up My Life count? In all seriousness, one thing to note is that the bulbs aren’t individually replaceable, which is a pain. But the product does have a two-year warranty and you’ll be sent out a free replacement product if it becomes defective within that period.
Is it complicated to use?
Depends if you’re good with remotes. I’m not.
