Fun, functional and flexible family home

Article by Homes to Love

This unique family home has a central courtyard that is completely encased in cheesecloth, making it an enjoyable place to be all day and night

Owners Louise and Matt were already fans of the work of local architect James Russell, so when they bought this block of land in Brisbane’s inner east, there was no question who they would turn to to design the home to go on it.

One of James’ most ingenious ideas was to wrap the courtyards – in effect, the whole house – in shadecloth. By doing so, the outdoor areas are shaded from the sun as well as protected from the pesky insects that are part and parcel of living in a subtropical environment.
