Homes to Love caught up with Freedom Furniture’s New Zealand buyer Myelz Moss to chat about their recent collaboration with cult Australian print designers Blacklist

Q+A with Freedom’s Myelz Moss
Myelz, how did the collaboration with Blacklist come about?
After working with a local candle supplier for quite some time over in Australia, we had thought it would be great to see what other areas we could explore in line with small independent artisans. We loved what Blacklist was doing and saw it was getting a lot of traction on Instagram so thought it might be worth reaching out.
What is it about the Blacklist aesthetic that Freedom likes?
As we were working on our new Urban Tribe theme for the AW’16 collection and were looking at working in graphic concepts with metallic accents, we noticed that Blacklist was working with similar mediums. It made complete sense for us to collaborate as we knew the text and calligraphy would work seamlessly with the Urban Tribe product offering and theme.

Did you give the Blacklist designers’ free reign on the design of the prints or did you have input?
We didn’t want to put any restrictions across what they were working on for us – it was as simple as a meeting to discuss the Freedom brand and where we saw Blacklist fitting into the mix, followed by the designers getting stuck in and doing what they do best.
Were they restricted on the colour palette?
We had advised Blacklist that there was a strong focus on monochromatic graphics and metallic accents.

Is this going to be an ongoing collab or is this a once off?
We are proud of the partnerships we develop and are always looking for ways that these can continue to grow throughout different categories.
How many prints are there in the series?
There are six prints in the series.

What sizes do they come in?
There are both medium (38cm x 51cm) and large (51cm x 70cm) sizes available, which means that the prints look great either stand-alone or placed together to create a gallery-style look.
How would you describe them?
This collection of artworks fuses metallic and typographic elements for a very contemporary look.
