We’ve got four clever DIY projects using beach towels by stylist Vanessa Nouwens
Beach towel linen
If you love the pattern of your beach towels, why not turn them into a bath mat, facecloth and hand towels? One beach towel should get you all these items. Use your existing bathroom towels as a cutting guide. Remember to wash your towels before cutting and sewing.
Towel clutch
Keep your beach essentials sand-free with this towel clutch. Cut the towel 25cm in from the fringed end. Invert the fabric, folding it over so the fringing comes together to form the base. Sew in the zip. Sew the sides and base, just above the fringing. Make the size that suits your needs – ours was 25cm high x 30cm wide.
Beach towel cushions
To create a double-fringed Euro cushion cover, cut the beach towel 45cm from the fringed end. Turn the fabric inside out, with the two fringed ends on top of each other. The cushion cover should be 45cm x 45cm. Sew the top of the cover and one side. Invert the fabric and place the insert inside. Close the base together with Velcro strips placed at the opening.
Towel tote
Cut the towel 50cm in from one end. Hem the cut end to form the top of the bag. Fold the fabric inside out, bringing the two sides together, then sew. Sew the base just above the fringing. Invert the fabric. Cut two one-metre strips of canvas for the straps, then pin and sew them into place.
