A New Plymouth home serves up a stylish array of delightful pastel tones
Bridget Rook’s house is a pastel wonderland, like something whipped up and displayed in a Parisian macaron shop window.
But it took hard work and effort to make the home such a delight, with Bridget doing all the painting herself at her sweet New Plymouth home.
In 2021, Bridget and husband Casey started a small renovation to turn the patio in a dining area. “I kept the 1990s Shaker-style kitchen cabinets and painted them with a roller in Resene Ethereal and Resene Double Alabaster,” she says. Almost all the paint was Resene SpaceCote Flat. The kitchen walls and dropped ceiling were painted Resene Half Duck Egg Blue, while the door was treated to a gorgeous coat of Resene Inside Back. “This is the room I am most proud of,” Bridget says.
The following year, the soft blue colour scheme was continued through to the lounge, with Bridget painting the anaglypta walls in Resene Double Duck Egg Blue. An antique china cabinet is painted in Karen Walker Chalk Colour paint in Resene Cosmic. In the rumpus room, a bold abstract mural catches the eye. “The wall mural in our rumpus room is done with large and small Resene testpots in a range of greens and pinks,” says Bridget, comprising of Resene Dust Storm, Resene Rivergum, Resene Petite Orchid, Resene Contessa and Resene My Pink. “The furniture, mirror and shelves are painted to match the space.”
In a child’s room, pink is the flavour of the month. “I have injected some colour in by painting a Resene Gelato feature wall and a bright headboard in Resene Smitten.”
The feature wall in the hallway is Resene Soothe, a dusty umber, which helps to tie the living and sleeping spaces together. Outside, chairs painted in Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen in Resene Triple Duck Egg Blue provide the finishing touches to this pastel-perfect home.
