The kitchen may be the heart of the home, but the laundry? That has to be up there as a major artery. Sports kits, officewear, gym clothes, school uniforms… it all comes out clean and ready to set us up for the week ahead.  But let’s face it, tackling a large load of washing on the weekend is much easier in an inviting space.

Kate Rogan of Rogan Nash Architects says laundries are a great place to add some colour to your home or show off an interesting tile. “We find people often want the laundry to look or feel less serious than the rest of their home,” she says.

Whether your laundry is a dedicated room, a cupboard in the hall, or a corner of your garage, a few well-chosen pieces can make it so inviting, you won’t want to leave.

Bondi Wash Laundry Wash

$46 at The Iconic

Splash out on an indulgent laundry liquid for washing delicate fabrics and favourite pieces of clothing. That way when you don your clean clothes, you’ll carry the scent with you. This luxe formula from Bondi Wash is fragranced with Tasmanian Pepper and lavender. Even better, it’s 100 per cent botanically-derived with no sulphates, synthetic fragrance or bleach.

Double Folding Fabric Laundry Basket

$24 at Mighty Ape

If you’re constantly tearing your hair out over your family’s sheer inability to separate their darks and lights, make it easy for them with this funky divided hamper. Made from 8mm aluminum with an anti-rust function, it can handle the tests of the laundry. The inside of the clothing storage bag is coated with environmentally friendly waterproof cloth, which is easy to wipe out.

Ceramic Trinket Dish

$51.75 at The Iconic

Make sure to remove your rings before tackling a large load of washing, otherwise you might hear them knocking about in the machine – or worse, tumbling down the drain. An aesthetic ceramic trinket dish next to the sink will help you remember. This bespoke white matte ceramic trinket dish by Cleanse and Co is the perfect size to house your valuables, and can be quickly wiped down with a cloth between uses.

Laundry Dryer Balls (Set of 3)

$35 at Father Rabbit

Save drying time with these felted wool balls, the laundry room addition you didn’t know you needed. They bounce throughout your dryer, separating the clothes, creating airflow and helping prevent wrinkles. When you’re not suing them, they can sit pretty in their stylish fabric bag.

White Tea and Wild Mint Candle

$55 at Sephora

Give your laundry a fresh scent and it will be a much more inviting space to enter. This white tea and wild mint candle is fresh, clean and comes in very handy when you’ve got the less-than-desirable scent of sports uniform and gym gear to mask.
