Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m an artist, designer, multi-hyphenate creative and colour lover who lives in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. I originally trained as a graphic designer, but for the past 14 years have worked for myself, creating art, textile designs, illustration, interior design, events, workshops and anything creative that I can turn my hand to. My work varies a lot, but no matter the medium, it always comes back to colour.
What are the main inspirations behind your art and design?
I feel lucky to be inspired by so much that I find it hard to pin down my main inspirations. Art, interiors, architecture, colour combinations, shadows, random collections, outfits, TV shows, book design, music, nature… my brain just soaks it all up and I have to hope I can find a way to use it all. I’m very influenced by whatever I’m caught up in the moment. So, for Our House of True Colours, I had been watching documentaries on YouTube about the Bauhaus and that was playing on my mind.
What is the story behind Our House of True Colours?
To me, home should always be a reflection of our true selves. It’s a space for us to rest, restore, energise and live our lives away from the expectations of others. My own confidence with colour, style and just in general has grown as I’ve explored this through how I decorate my home. Think less about what anyone else might think and more about what you really love, what you want to be surrounded by, what best reflects you and the people you love.

Where in the home would the print look best?
Honestly, anywhere but don’t overlook forgotten spots in the house like the bathroom, laundry or a funny little corner. This print has lots of colour, so it is perfect for brightening up a space without dominating. I’d encourage a crafty moment to personalise it, painting a frame a custom colour, or even creating your own abstract architecture collage to go alongside.
Evie’s artwork, Our House of True Colours, came about after watching a doco about the Bauhaus. To her, our home should reflect who we truly are and be a place where we can live our lives away from the expectations of others.
