How to wash your feather duvet

This handy method will give your duvet the clean it needs

As the weather cools, you may find yourself reaching into the cupboards for your winter-weight duvets, only to find it’s covered in dust and needing a little care before it goes back on the bed.  Although you may regularly air your duvets, a thorough clean is the only way to remove the oils, skin cells and dust mites that naturally accumulate with use.

Cleaning a feather duvet might seem like a daunting task, but with the right techniques, it can be simple and straightforward.  It’s important to follow the specific care instructions on the product label as some feather doonas are dry-clean only.  If yours is washable at home, here is our simple yet effective guide that will have it feeling refreshed in no time.

Can you put your duvet in the dryer?

If your duvet fits in your tumble dryer (and the care instructions say it’s safe to do so), a few minutes on a warm cycle will fluff the feathers nicely, otherwise, it might take a day or two to dry naturally.

On top of a regular clean, it’s also worth placing your duvet in the sun every month to allow it to air out as the sun’s UV rays work as a natural disinfectant.
