Laundry storage solutions: baskets, shelving, racks and more

Cluttered laundry? Get organised with these tips

Despite being shrines to cleanliness, laundries often become cluttered with cleaning products, piles of clothing and other household paraphernalia.

Whether you’re lucky enough to have a spacious laundry where you can wash, dry, fold and store all your cleaning essentials, or a compact European-style laundry that houses only the essentials, clever storage solutions are essential for creating a functional and organised space that makes doing laundry less of a chore.

Take your space back to its pure and simple beginnings by investing in aesthetically-pleasing baskets and containers, practical storage solutions and decor that makes your laundry feel a little lss utilitarian.

“Use baskets and containers to store and sort your everyday laundry items such as cleaning detergents, stain removers, delicates/wash bags, etc,” suggests Christian Rechichi, Hills Product Manager.

Even the smallest laundries can be transformed into functional, multipurpose spaces with the addition of smart storage solutions that make use of every square inch of unused space.

“Use the back of your doors, or between your washer and shelves to store your airers. Make use of your walls where space is premium. Add floating shelves or hooks to store your laundry related items, or store other items such as coats and hats to make your laundry a multi-functional storage room,” says Christian.

SMART LAUNDRY STORAGE TIPS

  • Add a trolley on wheels to your laundry to hold all those extra bits and pieces. Use it to store guest towels, bed linen, soaps and toothbrushes, or stash clothes that need to be folded or ironed in it – you can then wheel it up to your ironing board, and use the top of the drawers to fold clothes on.
  • A collapsible clothes airer is essential for drying clothes when it’s raining or delicates that can’t be left on the line. Make sure it folds up nice and flat so it’s easy to store.
  • Wall hooks are great for adding extra storage for all sorts of items, from brooms and bags to hats and coats.
  • A suspended drying rack or rail is clever addition that will come in handy for drying clothes or hanging shirts after ironing.
