The fifth Resene Small Room Awards finalist creates a dreamy nursery

A sunny nursery receives the golden touch

A nursery is always a tricky interior to decorate, but Alysia Simkin’s honey-toned mural masterpiece adds the perfect note of sweetness to a small space.

Alysia’s vision for her young son’s bedroom was something “fun and creative for a kid’s room but not too out there that we would have to change it once he gets older.” The Nelson mum went on Pinterest to explore and gather ideas for her interior dream, picking out an array of different colour options she loved along the way.

“I did some testing to see what combinations I liked and what worked well together, then came to the conclusion we wanted it to be neutral and found the perfect colours with Resene,” says Alysia. She settled on a base colour of Resene White Pointer for a diffused neutral white with just a hint of black. For her dreamy abstract mural, she picked Resene Sour Dough, a delicious warm beige, Resene Gold Coast, a pale ochre tan that looks as idyllic as its namesake, and Resene Antidote, a calming neutral that’s perfect for a child’s room. The result is a sweet as honey effect that suits all ages and one lucky little boy.

More Resene colours to try (left to right): Resene Athena, Resene Salted Caramel, Resene Quarter Pearl Lusta.
