Red is an energising colour, said to stimulate conversation when used in social spaces like dining rooms. But while fiery red is a polarising choice, burgundy has a depth and complexity that speaks of old-money opulence.
“Burgundy was the key colour seen at Milan Design Week this year – think berry, deep red, maroon (and all the shades in between),” says Dulux colour specialist Davina Harper.
“It is also said to reflect individuality, which is perfect, as we are seeing a strong move towards interiors that are less ‘hotel-like’ and more eclectic and full of personality. Accents (vases, rugs, artwork, cushions) in this shade work so well with many of the neutrals we’ve seen so much of over the past few years. Adding even a small touch of maroon can really lift a space and add a sense of vibrancy and energy,” says Davina.
If you want to experiment with painting your space in this on-trend shade, Resene Geronimo, Resene Burgundy and Resene Pioneer Red are all variations – try test pots to see if the shades work with the light. Then add depth to your space with touches of maroon through homewares and decor.
