Your Home and Garden takes inspiration from Norwegian philosophy Friluftsliv to create a restful, nature inspired living room
How to create an interior inspired by the Norwegian philosophy of Friluftsliv
Friluftsliv (‘free air life’, pronounced free-loofts-liv) is an ancient Norwegian philosophy that exploring and appreciating nature is the way to a happy, healthy and fulfilled life. The Norwegians believe returning to nature is returning home, and we tend to agree!
Put it together
- Modern hunter-gatherers can do anything, from chopping wood for the fire to gathering sustenance for a winter’s day in. We have created a setting inspired by this idea, and the Norwegian appreciation for the great outdoors.
- Wooden elements are a key theme of the look, with firewood a decorative – and practical – feature, along with a log-style side table and wooden flooring. Strong, sturdy furniture provides a base for earthy textures and fabrics. Layering these adds to the cosy atmosphere.
- A shaggy sheepskin chair is a key piece in this space. It is complemented by a tactile rug, pouf, throw and cushion.
- A bold colour choice anchors the look and provides contrast to the textural, natural elements in the room. We chose to partner Resene ‘Zinzan’ with deep rust and turmeric tones, which help to warm up the deep blue hue.
