Drift off to the sound of IKEA furniture names narrated in a soothing Swedish accent
We know that the sound of rain on the roof, waves crashing or whales talking can help us drift off to sleep but what about the narration of names of IKEA furniture pieces?
With 56% of Aussies struggling to get to sleep at night and 37% saying they need help to get to sleep at night*, IKEA Australia has released its very own Sleep Podcast in a bid to help listeners relax and doze off easily.
“Here at IKEA we understand that sleep is so important in living a better everyday life,” says Mark Mitchinson, Country Sales Manager IKEA Australia. “As experts in life at home, we want to inspire the many Australians to create the best sleep environment so they can feel refreshed and recharged to get ready for life.”
Narrated by two Swedish IKEA Australia co-workers, Sara and Kent Eriksson, the podcast starts with an explanation of IKEA product names (for example, beds and wardrobes are named after Norwegian places; textiles are named after flowers and plants) before launching into the names of different IKEA products. From ASKVOLL to VARDÖ, the IKEA Sleep Podcast covers the bedroom and storage section of the latest IKEA catalogue in soothing Swedish tones, designed to have a meditative effect on listeners.
“As you can hear in the Sleep Podcast, both Sara and I are Swedish and have grown up speaking the names of the IKEA furniture in our day-to-day conversation. We often get asked by our co-workers the correct pronunciation of IKEA products,” says one half of the podcast, Kent Eriksson.
“The IKEA Sleep Podcast is a unique take on creating background white noise and one of many solutions we hope to provide to help the many Australians get a good night’s sleep,” concludes Mark.
