Why statement tapware should be your new favourite bathroom trend

Attempting to hide or blend in your tapware and fixtures are a thing of the past. This year, we’re seeing a range of different colours from brass gold to matte black that give simple white bathrooms a subtle and sophisticated twist. Your Home and Garden’s editor Shelley Ferguson believes gold or brass fittings and tapware are a great way to achieve a touch of old-world glamour “without seeming over the top”.

Matte black is also rising in popularity, and black shower heads and handles juxtaposed against a plain white tile wall is a particularly effective way to add complexity to a bathroom. As well as looking great, black fittings are a practical choice as they don’t show dirt or watermarks as easily as traditional chrome.

Will and Karlie from The Block AU’s bathroom’s simple and elegant colour palette is complimented with hints of black and metallics.

Elements of black steel incorporated into the custom-made cabinetry are consistent with the exterior alteration of this Lloyd Hartley design.

Black tapware compliments the black aluminium window joinery of this CoLab Architecture creation, and sits beautifully alongside the birch plywood cabinetry.

Put a fancy soap or handwash in the bathroom.
