Auckland’s latest luxury offering comes in a historical package

For over 100 years the Chambers & Station buildings have stood as proud landmarks in the leafy Auckland suburb of Mt Eden. Throughout their history each building has only been used as a commercial space – the Chambers was once the Mt Eden Municipal Council Chambers and the Station was built for the fire service. Following a painstaking restoration project these iconic buildings are now home to 6 luxury boutique apartments.

The Chambers building was designed by architects Wade & Wade in 1912, with A. Sinclair O’Connor designing the Fire Station in 1925. Both buildings hold a special place in the history of Mt Eden Village so it was imperative that the project not only achieved the highest standard of luxury and quality but also preserved the authenticity of each building.

Chambers & Station now consist of two stunning penthouse apartments and four generous garden apartments. Each has been sensitively restored to echo the former glory of these Category B heritage buildings.

The key driving force behind this extensive refurbishment was the project’s conservation plan to restore and strengthen the buildings. The major additions to Chambers & Station include a full seismic upgrade, gorgeous shared rooftop garden, basement carpark and glazed central atrium linking the two buildings.

The refurbishment also paid careful attention to the grand exterior plaster-work and the fine craftsmanship of the interior. The period details of tongue and groove wall paneling and timber flooring is central to the Chambers, while the Station has been modeled on a loft-chic style.

Not only does the Chambers building hold a strong historical value but it also has a high architectural significance. Its exquisite character features including high stud ceilings, ornamental plaster work and ornate frieze and modillions make it a unique and exceptional find.

The penthouse apartment of the Chambers building is currently for sale by tender with Barfoot and Thompson, closing 4pm 26th January 2017. With sweeping views of the Waitakere ranges, and double grammar zoning this penthouse is the ultimate in city-fringe living.
