Flow and function: What to consider when updating your bathroom

With a few strategic updates, you can transform your bathroom into a serene oasis
The Adesso Mode Oval Free Standing Bath is the ultimate bathroom focal point

A bathroom should be more than just functional. It’s where daily rituals become moments of calm. If yours feels more like a high-speed train station than a sanctuary, it might be time for a refresh.

“We believe a bathroom is more than just a space. It’s where design meets durability, and timeless style lives alongside modern innovation,” says Michelle Lysaght, Mico National Showroom Manager.

The experts at Mico have given us some tips to consider when updating your bathroom, as well as their favourite products from their bestselling bathroom ranges.

Reimagine your space

A well-designed bathroom strikes a balance between function and style. If your layout feels bulky or dated, consider streamlining it with contemporary pieces that create room to move.

“Spatial layouts can be reimagined to balance comfort with efficiency, ensuring movement flows naturally, even in the smallest of bathrooms,” says Michelle.

Wall-hung vanities are a great way to maximise floor space. Changing the tapware instantly freshens your bathroom, along with matching accessories like towel rails, pop-up wastes and robe hooks. Try adding a new mirror, feature wall and plants, and look for clever storage solutions built into vanities, or mirrored cabinets to help create the illusion of space.

If you have the space, a full-sized bath oozes luxury, such as the Adesso Mode freestanding bath (pictured above). If you are short on space, look for back-to-wall options or shower over bath options.

Opt for timeless design

Materials and finishes have matured with the times, offering durability, easy maintenance and eco-conscious options that reflect a respect for both nature and tradition. Select tiles, metals and repurposed surfaces, not just for beauty but for lasting performance, and lighting can be thoughtfully curated to highlight textures and create inviting atmospheres.

Think natural textures, soft matte finishes, warm metals and eco-conscious innovations that age gracefully. Subtle technology enhances the experience without dominating it: touchless taps, digital controls and smart-water management quietly make life easier while keeping the space serene and hygienic.

Touches of brilliance

The 2026 Pantone Colour of the Year is Cloud Dancer: a lofty white that is light, bright and calming. It’s a beautiful base that can be brought to life with feature colours such as a tiled wall, floor tiles, coloured tapware and accessories.
