This new home in Millwater is proof that style and family living go together

Where have you saved money?
Lisa: Utilising Joe’s building skills to build items rather than buy them where possible, such as the outdoor kitchen, headboard, bedside tables, office furniture etc. Also I made most of the artwork and we did all the planting ourselves to save on labour costs.

Where have you splurged?
The size of the house (340 square metres), Italian tiles for the bathroom, large kitchen, extensive landscaping, window seat… The list goes on!

What was your best buy and why?
King Living sofas on special – most comfortable couches ever!

Best memory in your home?
The four of us relaxing in the spa pool and admiring the view on the night we moved in, knowing we could finally enjoy this house after all the time spent planning and building.

What would you never do again?
I’d do it all again in a heartbeat, but this is what we do for a living.

This wonderful outdoor living space, accessed from the family room, is perfect for relaxing and entertaining and is furnished with comfortable sofas, an outdoor kitchen, outdoor heating and even a television.

In the kitchen a textured, concrete-look splashback continues the theme, which is picked up again in the laundry and bathrooms.

A linear light, rather than pendants, suitsa sleek, minimalist kitchen and also offers a pleasing symmetry with the bench.

The elevated daybed provides precious storage and an ideal spot for reading or gazing at the view.

The steep section may have been too challenging for other buyers, but Joe could immediately see its potential

The board-formed concrete used for both the interior and exterior walls at ground level creates a lasting first impression.

Just across the hallway is a cosy family lounge furnished in soft greys and pops of pastels which repeat through the house.

The exterior window slats give privacy and demand design attention, too.

Large floor-to-ceiling concrete-look tiles in the bathroom and ensuite tie the top floor stylistically to the rest of the house.

The luxe laundry with black and timber cabinetry and a generously sized home office – all of which connect seamlessly to roomy outdoor spaces.

The laundry splash back is the same as the kitchen, with Interno Losanga mosaic from Tile Imports.

Repeating a decor element from the rest of the home in the bedrooms – in this case, raw wood – creates coherence and flow.

The neutral grey walls in Jack’s room will easily see him into his teens and beyond.

Patches of pattern, such as on Sophie’s chair seat, are all the more charming set against the room’s warm, plain colours.

Sophie’s room is filled with warm a plain colours.

The third and top level of the home rests over a barbecue area, completely sheltering it from the elements.
