A traditional terrace house with a modern extension

Article by Homes to Love

This terrace home almost contains two homes in one – a Victorian-style home at the front, and a Scandinavian, minimal home at the back. And they work beautifully together

The bright blue front door is the first sign that there’s something special inside this Victorian terrace house in Melbourne. Once visitors clap eyes on the light-filled rear extension, the blue door has delivered that something special.

Designed by architect and owner duo Annick Houle and Stephen O’Connor of O’Connor and Houle Architecture, the extension makes the most of the north-west sun and is now where the family cooks, eats and entertains – in other words, it’s the hub of the home.

Who lives here?

Annick Houle and Stephen O’Connor of O’Connor (owners of Houle Architecture); 11-year-old twins, Clara and Louis, a chocolate Labrador, Nutella and Couscous the cat.

“We just love this house. It is very private and serene, with glimpses of greenery from just about every window. It feels like a true family home,” says Annick.
