Inside former Prime Minister Dame Jacinda Ardern’s stylish family home
2018 was a whirlwind year for Prime Minister Dame Jacinda Ardern – new job, new baby and a new house. After taking six weeks maternity leave following the birth of her daughter, Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford, Jacinda opens the doors to her family home to reflect on her first few weeks of parenting.
Sitting in the lounge of her home in Sandringham, Auckland, Jacinda spoke candidly in an interview with Woman’s Day saying she’s looking forward to going back to work but will miss all the time she’s had with baby Neve. “It’s been the fastest six weeks of my life – it’s just flown by,” says Jacinda.
Following the birth of her daughter, Jacinda admitted she hadn’t left the house that much. She commented, “I think I probably went for a walk around the block a little sooner than I should have. I felt too ambitious and then hobbled back to the house.”
The house provided much-needed privacy over Dame Jacinda’s maternity leave. It’s was still relatively new to her and her husband Clarke Gayford. The couple had moved out of their Point Chevalier home as they needed more space for their growing family.
The 1920s bungalow stands near Eden Park. Funnily enough, it’s not far from the Mount Eden hoe that former Prime Minister Helen Clark resided in while she was in office.
Sitting on a 643m2, north-facing section, the house is perfect for a young family. It has three double bedrooms, an open plan kitchen, a dining and family room and a master bedroom with an ensuite. Its big back garden even has a tree house in a Pōhutukawa tree – perfect for when Neve is old enough.
