Port Elegance with Harbour Views

One of Port Chalmers’ original gracious homes, formally known as “The Captain’s House”, with stunning harbour views across Mussel Bay and the hills beyond.

Tastefully modernized to enhance the original character aspects, this home features an open plan kitchen, dining and living area with new carpet, wood burner and excellent indoor-outdoor flow onto a large sunny deck. There are 4 good-sized bedrooms with a family bathroom, including the master bedroom with ensuite and its own harbour views. The exterior of this grand home has been recently refurbished and repainted.

Set on a nicely landscaped, family-sized section of 1750sqm (+/-), with good off-street parking, and protected from the prevailing wind by being nestled into the hill, this home is private and positioned well for all-day sun. The children’s playground is an added bonus!

This is a warm family home; a rare beauty that doesn’t come up for sale often.

“The Captain’s House”
Known locally as “The Captain’s House” and built ca.1885, 15 Laing Street is likely named after Edward Knewstubbs, born into one of Port Chalmers’ original families in 1859. He was a well-respected boat builder and community leader, and the first master of the Port Chalmers dry dock, opened in 1909. He lived in the house from 1905-1931, with his family of 8 children. Many marriages were held there, and grandchildren learned to ride their bikes in the long internal hallway.
