Step 1

Give the floor a good vacuum to remove any surface dirt, dust or hair.

Step 2

Mop the tiled surface with a solution of warm water and vinegar (half a cup of vinegar to three litres of water). Avoid soapy detergents as these cause a soap-scum-like build-up on the surface of the tiles.

If the tiles are stone, marble or granite avoid vinegar as this can etch the natural stone. Use warm water on its own, or a special stone tile cleaning solution.

Mop the floor in sections until the surface is completely clean.

Step 3

Run a dry mop over the surface to speed up the drying time and avoid any particles attaching to the tiles and making them dirty again.

Step 4

Spot clean any stained areas or discoloured grout with a mixture of water and vinegar in spray bottle (mix ½ cup white vinegar with 1.5 cups water). For harder-to-clean marks, allow the solution to soak for a few minutes before wiping away with a cloth.

Step 5

For hard-to-clean grout, make a cleaning paste. Find the instructions here.
