How to de-clutter linen cupboard, clutter free feb

To start, work shelf by shelf and pull everything out of the space. Group like items together – fitted sheets, flat sheets, pillowcases, blankets etc. Empty out the entire space. Go through each category (‘keep’, ‘charity’ and ‘relocate’) and make decisions on the items.

Move on items that are tired and worn looking, sheets for beds you no longer own and items you don’t like. Be realistic about how much linen you really need for the number of people you live with.

Consider the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in your home and how often items get used. Two to three sheet sets per bed and two to three towel sets per person is a good guideline.

Measure the sheet sizes you are unsure of and label them using a fabric marker – it is helpful if you can do this with a family member. Take note of any items that are lacking and purchase them when you can.

Your ‘keep’ items will need to go back on the shelves, and seeing as they are now empty, this is your perfect chance to re-organise your linen cupboard.

Put your ‘charity’ items aside and move your ‘relocate’ items to their respective homes.

  • Be realistic about how much linen you really need and use.
  • Steer away from keeping something because you “might need it or use it one day”.
  • The size of your cupboard will indicate how much you can keep.
