The Block NZ: Inside this week’s record-breaking kid’s room reveal

Kid’s bedrooms were the name of the game this week on The Block NZ. With the added pressure of dinner wars and the ongoing feud between Amy & Stu and Claire & Agni continuing to bubble over, this was another week where drama overtook the DIY.

Following Amy and Stu’s second win in a row for their family bathroom, the other teams were even more determined this week to take home the much-needed $5000 room reveal prize.

The teams got creative assigning themselves their own design briefs, which included ‘teenage boy’, ‘Boho chick’ and ‘a young Jason’ – a cheeky decision after the abysmal score Jason gave Claire & Agni for their family bathroom.

Despite the close race to ‘tools down’, this week’s creativity and determination paid off with Host Mark Richardson calling the reveals “some of the best kid’s bedrooms we’ve ever seen.”

Scroll to see if the rooms lived up to the hype and find out who smashed two Block records in the process:

Catch up on the room reveals

Chlo and Em

Palmy besties, Chlo and Em decided they wanted to design a cool space for a teenage boy and they nailed it. The judges loved their bold choice of colour and impressive styling, saying it felt “masculine and age appropriate.”

Chlo and Em made the space feel crisp yet inviting by warming up the icy blue walls with wood accents and cleverly placed lighting. Their choice of artwork and graphic print cushions and throw also helped to tie the look together and gave the room a modern feel.

Ben and Tom

It’s been a tricky couple of room reveals for Ben and Tom, who are trying to find a balance between what they like and what will impress a future buyer. Judge Kristina Rapley previously described their styling efforts “immature” and called their design choices a “bit too masculine” for a family bathroom. Luckily, thanks to a brief they could relate to the Auckland buddies “totally redeemed themselves” with their moody teenage boy’s room.

Claire and Agni

Following Jason’s scoring them a 1 and saying their bathroom looked like “Avatar”, Claire and Agni decided to make the brief for their kid’s room a joke by designing it for ‘a young Jason’. Complete with bold colour blocking, a ‘time out’ corner for Jason and a custom made piece of artwork of Claire and Agni as Avatars, the final look was risky but thankfully paid off. Hopefully next week the Hamilton couple can pay more attention to painting the walls instead of their faces.

Amy and Stu

As the winners of every room reveal this season, Amy and Stu had a lot riding on this week’s results. After smashing the record for a perfect score last week the Gizzy couple did the unthinkable by winning this week’s room reveal with a more-than-perfect 21/20 and claiming the first ever hat-trick for room reveal wins.

Can they keep up their winning streak?
