The Block NZ: Inside this week’s dramatic blank canvas room reveal
For such a plain room reveal theme, ‘blank canvas week’ has been surprisingly dramatic on The Block NZ. From unsafe building sites to unsanitary plumbing, site foreman Peter Wolfkamp was on the war path as he tried to make sure the teams adhered to basic health and safety rules.
Time penalties were dealt out as punishment and Ben and Tom struggled the most to complete their ambitious room reveal concept. The time constraints unfortunately got the better of them and the Auckland buddies were left with an incomplete space and less-than-impressed judges.
Claire and Agni, on the other hand, really impressed the judges with their multi-use space. Kristina commended the Hamilton couple on their styling and the improvements they’ve made since their disastrous family bathroom reveal.
An overwhelming week left Chlo and Em feeling tired and teary, and not quite sure about how to use their landing space effectively. The judges weren’t sold either and felt the dark wallpaper made the space feel too cold.
After breaking The Block NZ record for the most number of room reveal wins in a row for their guest bedroom, family bathroom and kid’s bedroom, Amy and Stu looked set to add another notch to their room-reveal belt. But revelations of cheating have tripped Team Gizzy right before the finish line.
The incident that sparked all the drama was Peter Wolfkamp discovering Amy and Stu’s electrician working 20 minutes after ‘tools down’. An outraged Peter confronted the pair and later went on to say this was a deliberate attempt to “trick your way through this process”.
Now we have to wait to find out what this means for their score and who will be crowned this week’s room reveal winner. Let’s see if Chlo and Em choose to play their plus 1 and minus 1 on the scoreboard and finally take home a room reveal win.

Amy and Stu filled in the void by the stairs to create more space for a study nook.
The judges liked the sunny choice of colour and loved their custom-made bookcase.
The judges also said the space makes them look like “they know what they’re doing.”
Amy and Stu created a reading nook and study on the landing along with a linen cupboard.

Being in one of the middle houses meant the boys wanted to maximise light and boldly decided to install a number of skylights.
Ben and Tom decided to remove part of the landing to create a void to maximise light.
Unfortunately they couldn’t complete the space in time and the judges were disappointed saying it was not functional or finished.
Kristina liked their attempt at styling but Jason hated their choice of textured wallpaper.
The judges said it was an incredibly disappointing space and they need to start thinking about potential buyers.

Chlo and Em were slightly overwhelmed by the huge space and were unsure about how to use it effectively.
They decided to take a couple of risks with their décor choices.
Kristina liked the chaise and it’s styling.
The judges thought the cold room could be warmed up with a brass framed mirror and heavier drapes.
When opening the door to the desk a frustrated Jason exclaimed, “Okay, I’m going to sit in a cupboard and watch the time!”

“We’ve created something that we’re so proud of,” said Agni about their multi-use space on the landing.
The judges were impressed by Claire and Agni’simprovement from previous weeks.
The glass partition and heavy velvet drapes give the option for an open or cosy feel.
The playful jungle print was a risk but the judges liked it.
The landing space could be used as a study.
The judge’s felt like Claire and Agni are starting to think seriously about what potential buyers would like.
Or, with this fold out bed, it could be used as a guest bedroom.
