This homeware store stocks whatever its customers want, need or ‘crave’ for their homes
When Jude Turner was looking for a new business venture six years ago, she couldn’t find exactly what she was looking for. “We’d look at existing businesses and I’d just want to change so much, in the end I decided it would be easier to start something brand new.”
The doors to Crave Home opened in September 2009, in the Auckland suburb of Birkenhead. Jude’s contemporary giftware shop was filled with “something visitors desired or wanted”.
“There wasn’t really much else around at the time. The best thing we hear back from our customers is that they used to have to drive to other destinations for a certain something, but can now come here. If we don’t have what they’re after we can get it.
“I had no previous retail experience, so I just focused on stocking the store with things that I would like or crave myself. Even today, there’s nothing here that I wouldn’t have, or in fact don’t have, in my own home,” Jude laughs.
