Introducing JS Ceramics

Jen Watt: “The nature of ceramics is that you never know exactly how the items inside the kiln are going to look when you open the door. I love the element of experimentation and surprise. Clay is a basic element which can be manipulated and transformed into something beautiful and functional; it is design at a grass-roots level.”

“Ceramics is limitless as a medium; you are constantly learning and practising. We hand-make ceramic homeware with a slip-casting technique with slip clay in white earthenware.”

JS Ceramics is a family business; my husband, Tom, and I work alongside my brother Pete (Blair), and we have a small team to help us with the slip-casting, glazing, kiln loading, wrapping and admin.”

“Everyone chats while working and on sunny days we have our large roller doors open to the surrounding Te Puna orchards.”
