Conceived by artist Andrea Zittel, the 10 sleeping pods, called wagon stations, come with a communal outdoor kitchen, open-air showers and composting toilets.

The location has an almost sci-fi aesthetic with its clusters of boulders, red earth and scorched appearance.

The pods are portable and able to be reassembled.

The pods have a transparent strip so occupants are able to see the sky when sleeping.

The pods are able to be rented for one to two weeks in autumn and spring.

There are locks on either side that open the pod door. There are clotheslines to hang clothes on, plus hooks and shelves to store possessions.

The artist says the communal living scenario works because it’s for a limited time and there is protocol that must be followed for anyone visiting the campground/residency/retreat.

Andrea says this fulfills her fantasy of living on an alien landscape.
