What is a statement tile?

A statement tile creates a striking focal point in a room. An example would be a feature wall or floor.

What type of tiles would be considered a ‘statement’?

There is a lot of choice. A statement tile feature would work wonderfully with mosaics, patterned tiles, different-shaped tiles such as hexagon. Or opt for a smaller subway tile or large format tile. An easy way to apply a statement tile would be to use a contrasting colour to complement your interior colour palette.

Dogma

The Dogma range of tiles in Gris Natural and Gris Polished create an elegant, industrial-style space.

How do you choose a statement tile that works with your interior?

You need to think about a theme for your overall interior and pick a colour palette for that theme. Your statement tile then needs to fit in with your colour palette for your interior.

Uptown_silver

Uptown tiles recreate the simplicity of concrete, perfect for a chic kitchen design.

Statement tiles are quite a feature – what’s the best position/placement so they don’t overwhelm the room?

Less is more when it comes to statement tiles. We recommend if you choose a statement tile for your floor, then go neutral on your walls. If you choose a statement tile for your walls, we recommend just putting the statement tiles on one wall.

Extra_GREY

The ‘Extra’ ceramic tile in Grey and Tappetto creates an industrial-style look.

What are some other ways to apply statement tiles?

In a kitchen, you can have fun with a splashback. Having a mirror on the opposite wall from the statement tile wall, in a bathroom or small room, is also a great idea, as it reflects the tiles without having to have more laid within the room.

These large-format tiles are ideal for hardwearing spaces like hallways, decks and patios and walkways.

What patterned tiles are trending?

There are plenty of patterned tiles currently trending – the Moroccan look, brick or wood-look tiles, chevron or hexagon patterns and the industrial/concrete look.

How can people choose a design that won’t date too quickly?

Fashions come and go but style stays. You can’t go wrong with the classic marble look, light neutral colours such as warm grey tones and subway tiles.

Marble tiles like these will never date.

Stay clear of bold colours and loud patterns, as they may not be to everyone’s taste if you wish to sell your home. If you choose a pattern, make sure it is simple and has muted colours.

Any tips for people to keep in mind when choosing bathroomware/accessories to complement a statement tile?

Keep it simple. If you have a statement tile in a bathroom, keep to classic shapes and styles for your fixtures, such as a bath or vanity. You can’t go wrong with white bathroomware. Black tapware is very much on trend and can look striking with a statement floor. You can go wild when dressing a room with accessories but keep your overall theme in mind. Items such as towels, mats, candles and plants can all be changed out easily and on a small budget.
