The spring 2018 colour palette is – like the weather – both temperate and wild, with shell pink and sage green contrasted by stormy hues of charcoal, navy and lilac
1. Shell pink
+ Soft shades of powdered pink show no sign of fading from the home colour wheel this season, with spring bringing, if anything, renewed vigour to this hue.
+ Add a touch of apricot or terracotta for a forward-thinking update or contrast blush pink with tones of brick and olive, as seen in the Spring cushion from Citta’s new range, above.
2. Charcoal
+ The paler concrete tones of recent seasons deepen into charcoal this spring, offering both a dramatic feature colour or moody accent hue.
+ Charcoal creates striking effects with floral arrangements and amplifies other, more vivid colours to cause unexpected effects.
+ Experiment with charcoal soft furnishings or go bold with a feature wall or floor-to-ceiling drapery.
3. Hay
+ One of this season’s emerging colour trends, hay is both natural and refined, offering a new neutral in a move on from pure white.
+ With pastoral associations that conjure images of sun-kissed fields, late-summer sunshine and countryside picnics, this hue is ideal for the spring and summer table.
+ Look for hay in textiles, as well as in pale wood, taupe stoneware and flaxen textures.
4. Navy
+ Previously a more wintry colour, navy persists into the spring and summer colour palette as a richer alternative to black.
+ Navy cools down hot spaces and brings the relaxed, casual associations of denim to even the most sophisticated room, making it ideal for summer living rooms and bedrooms.
+ When paired with crisp white, navy can also take on an indigo effect that recalls Japanese craft traditions, especially in concert with delicate floral arrangements and patterns.
5. Lilac
+ Emerging as the more liveable version of ‘Ultraviolet’, the much-touted Pantone Colour of the Year for 2018, lilac has a softer, more muted effect than vibrant purple.
+ This romantic hue is particularly dreamy when interpreted in coloured glass, either transparent or opaque, and lends itself particularly well to big, bountiful bunches of spring and summer blooms.
6. Sage
+ While green has always been the colour of spring, sage is the colour of the moment and joins black and white as a new neutral mainstay.
+ Dusty and delicate, sage is the green of fresh new growth, which lends itself well to rooms with plenty of natural light such as bedrooms and bathrooms.
+ Update this hue with deeper tones of olive and bottle green, or go lighter into mint and seafoam to create a dappled effect that recalls filtered sunlight.
