When it comes to bathroom design it can be hard to know where to begin. To help you get started, Your Home and Garden editor Kristina Rapley shares her own reno journey with Mico Bathrooms
Whether your style is minimalist, maximalist or somewhere in between, it’s important to start your bathroom renovation journey with a clear plan in mind. Deciding on your look and layout as early as possible will save you time in the long run. Your Home and Garden editor, Kristina Rapley is all too familiar with the design and planning stage. Kristina and husband Ashton purchased their West Auckland home over two years ago and have been taking their time to nail their dream reno. With their home full of original mid-century architectural features, they wanted to freshen up their bathroom while keeping in the tone of the rest of the house. Kristina gives us a behind-the-scenes look into her own bathroom journey and reveals below how she got her renovation underway in four simple steps.
1. Make a mood board
Gathering inspiration from Pinterest, magazines and Mico’s Bathroom Book helped me decide on the style for our new space. One moody, mid-century bathroom coming up!
2. Measure up!
Next up, we got our builder, Nick from Evolution Builders, around to measure up the room and give us an approximate quote which helped us form the all-important budget.
3. Design and visualise
Mico Bathrooms’ online 3D Design Planner helped us visualise the space and gave us true-to-scale plans to hand over to our builder. Sitting down in-store with design consultant Lisa helped firm up our bathroom layout and product ideas.
4. Be showroom ready
Armed with my moodboard, a budget and our design plans, we went into a Mico Bathrooms showroom to pick out all our big items – a bath, tapware, basin, toilet and accessories.
