How to create a Dutch-style floral arrangement

We have channeled a Dutch still-life painting for this arrangement, which is both autumnal and beautiful. Here’s how to create this seasonal arrangement, complete with a list of florals

How to get the look

You will need:
-Dahlias
-Gerberas
-Eucalyptus
-Hanging amaranthus
-Viburnum
-Scabiosa
-A round pottery-style vase
-Scissors
-Water

Instructions:

1. Trim all stems on angle, ready to drink lots of water. The idea is to have some of the flowers sitting at the lip of the vase, with the gerberas sitting higher and the amaranthus hanging down the side.

2. Start with greenery, then add dahlias. Add gerberas and scabiosa so they sit higher than the rest of the arrangement.

The gerberas are in their natural state

but you can use wire to keep them upright

Top Tips

Make sure you create voids and let the flowers and stems remain in their natural form. Using one larger flower such as a dahlia works well to balance out the overall arrangement.

The colours used in this arrangement complement the season – autumn

Blooms without straight stems work the best

even droopy flowers help with the overall look
