Dreamed of falling asleep in a room designed by the likes of Alex Walls or Evie Kemp? Here’s your chance.

On October 15 – 31, four complete bedroom looks designed by Alex Walls, Evie Kemp, LeeAnn Yare and Melissa Greenough will be auctioned off on Trade Me. It’s all part of Sealy’s annual Designer Bed fundraising campaign for the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ.

Each designer has created a bedroom look to dress the pink velvet Sealy Posturepedic Exquisite bed, specially designed for this fundraiser.

Designer and illustrator Evie Kemp channelled her eclectic style for her bedroom design, themed ‘road to recovery’.

“I’m a huge believer in the power of surroundings to help your health and wellbeing, especially at a time when you need to be healing and looking after yourself,” she said.

Kemp created a bespoke one-off print especially for this campaign, which she hung above the bed.

“I was inspired by the art of kintsugi, a Japanese art form and philosophy based on the idea of repair to a broken object, particularly ceramics, which can then tell a story and make the object even more beautiful,” she said.

“It shows that broken objects are not something to hide, but to display with pride, and I love how that resonates as a metaphor for breast cancer recovery.”

For Alex Walls, from A&C Homestore, the room design was all about channelling the beauty and calm of nature.

“I’ve called the room ‘Nature’s Calm’,” she said. “I thought about the kind of environment that makes me feel calm and allows me to take deep breaths of fresh air and, for me, this is nature.”

Interior stylist and owner of homeware store Collected, LeeAnn Yare says she felt it was important for her room design to showcase the colour pink.

“Pink is one of my favourite colours, I use it regularly in my own work and I wanted to give that nod to the BCFNZ,” she said.

Melissa Greenough, award-winning interior designer and host of TVNZ’s HOMEmade, chose to keep her room concept simple and timeless.

“I wanted it to be like a sanctuary,” she said. “[Anyone] could take this room and put their own mark on it, whatever their style.”
