You’d be forgiven for having to look twice at some of these cake creations. Are they popular decor items or edible delights? Scroll down to see

Interior trends aren’t foreign to cake decorators. Cacti and succulents soared to popularity indoors and are still making their way around the cake circuit.

When Scandi-minimalism entered the interior world, it was quickly followed by the naked-cake trend in the baking world.

Even ombre and Shibori have proved themselves as popular textiles as well as cake decorating inspiration, and don’t even get us started on gemstones and crystals.

But there’s one decor item we’d never have dreamed would qualify as cake-decor-worthy. And, boy, has Alana Jones-Mann proved how the humble rug was wrong to be disregarded in such a way.

LA-based Jones-Mann has become known for her popular and unique shaggy rug cakes. Last year she was commissioned by Elle Decor to create seven cakes inspired by rugs.

Among her seven creations were the XY rug by David Kaihoi, a vintage Moroccan wool runner, an Antique Malayer West Persian rug and the Highland rug by Vivienne Westwood.

Exquisitely detailed, Jones-Mann hand pipes the icing onto each cake using a special tip. Whilst these seven rug cakes highlight her artistic talent, it’s her shaggy rug cakes that have really garnered traction in the culinary world. And piqued our interest in the interior world.
