Melania Trump has decked the halls for 2018, and like last year, these White House Christmas decorations have got people questioning whether the theme is “American Treasures” or “American Horror Story”
Melania unveils her White House Christmas decorations for 2018
For her second Christmas in the White House, First Lady Melania Trump has chosen to deck the halls in an “American Treasures” theme. “The White House shines with the spirit of patriotism,” says the official White House website. And in typical White House fashion, the decorations are anything but minimal.
There’s a Gold Star Family tree in the East Wing to honour the troops, two trees adorned with blue and gold decorations in the Vermeil Room, four 14-foot fir trees in the East Room, decorated with 72 handmade paper ornaments representing six regions across America, and 29 more trees in the Grand Foyer.
However, it’s not just the surplus of Christmas trees that make up the White House holiday decorations. There are three replicas from previous state dinners on display, an impressive gingerbread house, and the family Christmas card on show. To celebrate American Architecture four custom mantelpieces showcasing the skylines of New York City, St. Louis, Chicago and San Francisco sit pride of place in the East Room.
But it’s the 40 red topiary trees lining the East colonnade that have captured people’s attention. Lining the infamous site of last year’s bare-branched white trees, this year’s blood red trees have got people questioning whether Melania might have a career in decorating horror movie sets.
